Governments at all level have been advised to ensure peace equity and justice in all their decision making processes to promote national integration and cohession.

Former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar retired gave the advice while addressing Newsmen in Minna on the sixty first Independent Anniversary of Nigeria.

General Abdulsalami Abubakar explained that it was only when we keep peace and maintain peace that Nigeria would prosper.

He said problems of agitations for succession by some section of Nigeria could be addressed if leaders imbibe the virtues of equity and justice where every citizen of Nigeria is given equal rights to be part and parcel of the union.

On the celebration of sixty first anniversary of Nigeria Gen Abdulsalami Abubakar maintained that Nigeria had come a long way with significant progress in educational infrastructure and many spheres of human endeavor

Answering question on if he was pressured to hand over power to a democratically elected government the former Head of State said no stressing that he is a fulfilled man for doing the right thing of handing over power from military to civilian administration.

General Abdulsalami Abubakar further said he did that for two reasons to restore unity of Nigeria and bring back professionalism even though some people were asking him to prolong his stay so that they could be part of on coming democracy in Nigeria.

On Security General Abdulsalami Abubakar opined that Security forces in Nigeria were doing well and called for more recruitments and equipment to face the challenges of insecurity.

He however advocated for the diversification of Nigerian economy for maximum benefits.
