Minister of Defence Maj Gen Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd) says Nigeria and the Republic of Bulgaria will soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on defence cooperation.

The agreement was sequel to a visit to the Ministry by the Bulgarian ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Nigeria, Yanko Yordanov.

General Magashi said bilateral relations between the two countries, panning over five decades, was long enough to snowball into a stronger defence cooperation especially now that Nigeria was confronting internal security threats by non – state actors.

He said the time was ripe for the two countries to ‘work’ on a robust MoU, as soon as all diplomatic issues and legal documents were sorted out.

The Defence Minister said the proposal was being transmitted to the Ministry of justice for perusal.

He, therefore, told his guest that the processes and procedures the documents are being subjected to are the required due diligence paths that will bring out the best in safeguarding the interests of the two countries.
