Federal Government has been urged to fasten the process of mental healthcare bill into law for Nigerians to access its services effectively.
President of the Association of Psychiatrists in Nigeria APN, Professor, Abdullatif Taiwo Sheikh made this known in an interview with Radio Nigeria in Kaduna.
Professor Abdullatiff Taiwo explained that mental well-being was a dynamic system of change that enable persons to interact normally in the society and ”taking care of it, has an important role in day to day activities which help to flush out all other illments that the body is trying to fight”
According to him, it is the duty of the Government to provide a mental Health care Services that is more human and one that recognizes the mental well-being of Nigerians.
”The Bill if pass into law Will provide an effective and affordable mental Health care for Nigerians. Integrating mental health care into primary health care”
”Every country in the world is expected to have a law that protects any persons that is suffering from mental health and also ensure that there is adequate access for effective and affordable mental health data, affordable for all” the president added.
Professor Abdullatiff Taiwo who called on Nigerians, especially the youth to desist from any social vices capable of destroying the brain advised government at all levels to massively embark on sensitizations campaign on mental health.
