Deputy Governor of Kano State Dr Nasiru Yusif Gawuna,who Doubles as the Commissioner for Agriculture says the State Government has implored modern techniques of improving Agricultural produce ,with the aim of Ensuring food Security and Availability in the State.
Dr Nasiru Yusif Gawuna stated this during an exclusive interview with Radio Nigeria in Kano.
He said the Gandujes Administration since inception had embarked on Changing the mind set of the Farmers so that they would be more Committed with the aim of Achieving the set objectives.
The Deputy Governor explained that the state Had provided enough security Strategies which Lead to a condusive atmosphere for farming, modern infrastructure for comfortable transportation of farm produce from rural areas to urban centers for marketing.
“We’ve embarked on providing the Adequate Training and technology to Farmers ,provision of adequate inputs particularly fertilizer ,as well as providing qualified extension workers that would guide our Farmers, over one thousand Agricultural Extension workers were employed by Kano state government geared towards Sustaining food Security”
” Kano state have the Largest Irrigation facilities which we are trying to renovate greater part of it ,for you to sustain the food security and Availability,you have to be able to produce at least twice a year and that’s what we are up to”
Dr Nasiru Yusif Gawuna maintained that under the Kano Agro Pastorial development project fifty percent of the Dams in Kano would be Dregded and recositated which will pave way in creating more Production land in the State.
“When we came onboard in 2015 ,fifty percent of the hectrate that we have were unutilized ,but as I’m talking to you now, immediately it is rainy of dry season,we are shot of land to offer as hire for farmers to cultivate, that’s why the Agro Pastorial project was working towards creating more lands ,and very soon we are going to open up close to a thousand hectares for Famers”
The Deputy Governor further Stated that Under the Agro Processing Productivity Enhancement And Livelihood improvement project, the State Government had Recorded alot of Successes geared towards Enhancing Agricultural Produce.
He charged Farmers and stakeholders to Advocate for adequate utilization of the funds Accessed ,saying proper monitoring Mechanization has been put in place to ensure Adequate utilization of Grants and farm inputs provided by Government and developing partners with the Aim of Achieving the set objectives.
Dr Nasiru Yusif Gawuna Urged Farmers to Compliment Government efforts in ensuring that they Refunds Loans provided to them as at when due, so that others will benefit from the Same guest.
