Wife of the Inspector General of Police and POWA PRESIDENT presenting items to the beneficiaries.

Wife of Inspector General of Police Hajiya Hajara Baba Usman has empowered 500 widows and police officers wives of Borno state Police Command.

Presenting the items to the beneficiaries in Maiduguri, Hajiya Hajara Baba Usman who is also the President Police Officers Wives Association POWA said the initiative is part of her three points agenda of education, healthcare and welfare of members.

She stressed that police officers wives needed to be encouraged and supported as some have lost their breadwinners while protecting the country against insurgency and other forms of criminal activities. 

Hajiya Hajara Baba Usman encouraged members of POWA to engage in small businesses and skill acquisition programmes to support their husbands. 

The President of POWA equally urged them to register with Police Microfinance Bank in order to benefit from more empowerment programmes.

She promised to extend similar support to all POWA branches across the country.

Borno state Chairperson of the Association Zara Yaqub said the more than decade-long insurgency has claimed the lives of 265 police officers. 

She thanked the POWA President for the intervention and called for more support to widows and orphans of deceased police officers. 

Awards were presented to two female Police officers for distinguishing themselves in the course of their duties. 

They are Chief Superintendent Hadiza Musa and Superintendent Mary Stephen. 

Items presented include grinding machines, generators, refrigerators, mattresses and cartons of noodles.
