The communities of New GRA and Gwange in Maiduguri Metropolis mobilised resources and created a platform under Orphan Community Foundation to assist orphans domiciled in their communities.

He called on well meaning individuals and philanthropic organisations to come to the aid of large number of orphans in Borno state.

The Chief Imam of the New GRA Central mosque Imam Grema Makinta highlighted the importance of assisting orphans, explaining that nurturing and sponsoring them is a good deed in Islam.

According to him, Prophet Muhammad who was also an orphan encouraged faithful to give special care for orphans and quoted prophetic tradition which said “The one who cares for an orphan and myself will be in paradise like this, and held his two fingers together “.

Imam Grema observed that mistreatment of orphans endangers the society through increased social vices and criminal activities, urging the public to always engage in act that will give them a sense of belonging.
