Nigeria Customs Service Kano/Jigawa Command says it has made seizures of contraband items worth over thirty eight million Naira in the last three months.

Comptroller of Command Suleiman Umar Pai stated this while briefing newsmen on the activities of the Command in Kano.

He said the Command made a total siezures of twenty six different contraband items, which include 716kg of foreign rice,162 Cartons of Spaghetti,85 Cartons of Macaroni,and 90 Bales of Second Hand Clothes.

Others were 2 Cartons of Milk, 240 cartons of Foreign Soap and 520 Pieces of used Tyres

Comptroller Suleiman Pai explained that the Command had collected revenue of over seven Billion Naira in the first quarter of the year as custom duty and other charges.

” This represent one hundred percent increment in duty collection ,when compared to the last year’s revenue collected “

He said the difference recorded was made possible because of robust stakeholders engagement, Professionalism and increased level of compliance in the traders Zone.

The Area Comptroller noted that the Nigeria Customs service zero tolerance for Smuggling was non- negotiable,saying the service will do everything possible in fighting the menace.

Suleiman Pai reiterated the commitment of the Service in addressing the challenge of smuggling aimed at boosting the economy of the country.
