The Katsina Emirate has approved the conferment of the prestigious traditional title of Garkuwan Katsina Babba (Grand Defender of Katsina) on the Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris in recognition of his contributions to national development, leadership initiatives and support for programmes with wider impact across the country.

The approval was formally conveyed to the Governor by a delegation representing the Emir of Katsina, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Abdulmumin Kabir Usman, comprising the Emir’s Secretary, Alhaji Isa Ali kankiya, and Prince Abdulmumin Kabir Usman.

Presenting the official letter conveying the approval, the Emir’s Secretary said the Emir of Katsina had carefully considered Governor Idris’s contributions to national development, his leadership initiatives and reports of his activities and public service before approving the conferment of the title.

He explained that the decision followed consultations and deliberations with members of the Katsina Emirate Council, which unanimously considered Governor Idris deserving of the honour.

Alikankiya further disclosed that the Emir had asked the Governor to communicate his availability and readiness for the formal turbaning ceremony, following which the Emirate would make the necessary arrangements.

Responding, Governor Idris described the recognition as a great honour, not only to him personally but also to the government and people of Kebbi State.

The Governor said being considered worthy of such a prestigious traditional title by one of Nigeria’s historic and highly respected traditional institutions was a source of immense pride and a memorable milestone in his public service career.

He expressed profound appreciation to the Emir of Katsina for the confidence reposed in him, praying Almighty Allah to grant the royal father good health, long life and continued wisdom and success in his efforts towards the development of the Katsina Emirate, Katsina State and Nigeria.

Governor Idris attributed the honour to the positive reports of his administration’s activities and contributions to development, while expressing gratitude to traditional rulers within and outside Nigeria for their continued goodwill, prayers and support.
