Federal Government has awarded a one-billion-naira solar mini-grid project to the Federal University Dutse in Jigawa State under the Renewed Hope Solarisation Agenda for Alternative Energy.
In a statement made available to newsmen by the Public Relations Officer of the Institution, Alhaji Abdullahi Anako explained that, the provision and installation of the 0.5 megawatts (500 kilowatts) solar Minigrid is for the generation of power to improve the electricity supply in the campus.
According to him, the Energy commission of nigeria approves the project, adding that, the completion period is three months and is expected to commence soon.
He said, the Vice- Chancellor Professor Ahmad Mohammed Gumel expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Director General of the Commission, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi for their kind gesture to the university.
Anako pointed out that, the commission is also ready to partner with the university on Renewable Energy Research.
It would be recalled that the Commission had recently approved 100 solar street lights for the university of which 50 are ready for installation.
