Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has commissioned three roads projects totalling 4.4km and a modern market in Doma local government area.
Speaking at the event, the Governor said the projects’ inauguration was part of activities marking the state 30th anniversary.
He announced that the state’s Internally generated revenue IGR has grown from N7 billion annually in 2019 to N40 billion, enabling the government to execute capital projects without borrowing.
The Governor said over N2 billion from a N3 billion federal flood intervention fund, supplemented by state Internally Generated Revenue, was used to construct the critical bridge linking Lafia and Doma to tackle perennial flooding.
He promised to return to commission other projects and to prioritise the construction of the Doma-Rukubi-Akpanaja road.
Governor Abdullahi Sule said, Doma has benefited immensely under his administration with two commissioners, four permanent secretaries and a head of service from the area, and urged the people to show gratitude in the coming elections.
Meanwhile, the Governor has inaugurated a primary healthcare centre and a road built by lafia local government area, saying his administration has granted full autonomy to local councils since 2019.
He dismissed the impression that council autonomy began under President Bola Tinubu, noting that local governments in nasarawa state have been managing their resources and executing projects since his assumption of office.
The Governor commended local government chairman, Mr Haliru Arab,o for building and equipping the PHC to standard without state support, and urged him to ignore critics and stay focused.
He said in the last few days he has commissioned federal-standard roads in wamba, akwanga, nasarawa-eggon and doma, all built by local governments with reputable contractors.
He announced that work would soon resume on the abandoned kwandere-karshi road, which would now be upgraded from surface dressing to a standard federal highway with stone base and asphalt at about N40 billion after negotiation from over N50 billion.
In a remark, The State Commissioner for local government, Alhaji Aminu Mu’azu Maifata, said the project is a result of the Governor’s directive on full disbursement of signature bonuses to councils and his advice that councils use their savings to equip the clinic.
