Security Agencies in Niger state have assured the Independent National Electoral Commissio INEC and leaders of political parties of its commitment to ensure that the political space is secured for the commencement of political activities in a peaceful manner.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, in charge of Niger state, Dr Oliver Ter Msoo Agundu stated this in an interview with Newsmen after the stakeholders meeting
on the electioneering campaign for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections held in Minna, the state capital
Dr Oliver Agundu explained that to achieve this, political parties must play their part to intimate INEC and Security Agencies of their itinerary of date of political campaign venues and time ahead of time to prevent different political parties converging in one place or location at the same time to avoid crises.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of Niger state, however reaffirmed the Commission’s readiness to provide a level playing field for political parties in the state to thrive towards achieving a credible and acceptable elections, while appealing to the Media to keep reminding political parties on their responsibilities towards attaining a friendly and hitch free campaigns.
According to him, campaigns for the Presidential and National Assembly election officially begins on the nineteenth of this month, and that was the reason why INEC engaged leaders of political parties, the Media and Security Agencies to brainstorm on the legal framework on the regulations and guidelines of political parties 2026 to deepen the democracy and achieve greater heights.
Presenting a paper on “Acts that constitute Election Campaign Offences under the Electoral act 2026” Barrister Zangana Sunday Gbaje of the INEC Legal Department Minna, said political and religious leaders have a vital role to play in stabilizing the society during elections, and however charged politicians to guard their utterances, and desist from abusive words, inciting religious or ethnic crises which attract a two million naira fine, conviction or both, while Ibrahim Alawa also presented paper on Political Party Campaign Tracking.
In his remarks the Chairman Inter Party Advisory Committee IPAC Niger state, Abdullahi Maikujeri, expresses readiness to support INEC to achieve a hitch free and successful election, added that on their own part IPAC will exhaust all avenues that comprises of mediation, reconciliation and dialogue to achieve the set target.
