The Zamfara State Government has announced that it will transition to electronic governance from August 1, 2026, as part of efforts to modernise public service delivery, improve efficiency, and strengthen transparency in government operations.
Governor Dauda Lawal made the announcement in Gusau at the opening of a capacity-building workshop for members of the State Executive Council on the implementation of the e-Government platform.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Nakwada, the governor said the digital governance initiative reflected his administration’s commitment to transforming the state’s public service through technology.
He explained that the e-Government platform was designed to simplify government processes, promote transparency and accountability, as well as to provide citizens with easier access to information on government activities.
Governor Lawal said the training exercise which begin with members of the State Executive Council would be extended to civil servants across ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
He urged participants to take the training seriously to ensure the successful implementation of the initiative and maximise its benefits for the people of Zamfara State.
Speaking with journalists, the Executive Secretary of the Zamfara Information Technology Development Agency (ZITDA), Dr. Habib Gajam, said preparations for the transition began last year when the state developed and completed the electronic governance platform.
According to him, the current workshop provides members of the Executive Council with practical experience on the use of the system ahead of its full deployment.
He said paper files and documents would no longer be submitted to the governor’s office, as all memos, letters and approvals would be transmitted and signed digitally using secure electronic signatures.
The ZITDA Executive Secretary noted that the digital platform would eliminate bureaucratic delays associated with moving physical files between government offices, thereby accelerating decision-making and improving service delivery.
He added that the system would also enable the governor to monitor every memo and approval issued, making it easier to track implementation of government directives and strengthen accountability.
Dr. Gajam further explained that the platform supports virtual Executive Council meetings, allowing council members to participate remotely whenever necessary without being physically present.
He said the platform also incorporates Artificial Intelligence (AI) features that preserve institutional memory by securely storing government records and enabling users to retrieve information quickly whenever required.
According to him, the e-Government platform provides an end-to-end digital solution for government operations and positions Zamfara among the leading states in Nigeria in the adoption and implementation of electronic governance.
