A father and his teenage daughter have lost their lives after falling into an abandoned well in Yancibi Village, Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The victims, identified as 45-year-old Abubakar Abdullahi and his 15-year-old daughter, Fiddausi, reportedly fell into the well on Tuesday evening.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, said the incident occurred after Fiddausi accidentally slipped into the abandoned well.

He explained that her father also fell into the well while attempting to rescue her.

Saminu said firefighters from the Tsanyawa Fire Service Branch responded promptly to the distress call but could not complete the rescue operation due to darkness and the difficult terrain.

He added that a reinforcement team from the Fire Service Headquarters continued the operation in the early hours of Wednesday and recovered both victims from the well.

According to him, the father and daughter were found unconscious and were later confirmed dead.

The Fire Service spokesman said the bodies were handed over to the Village Head of Yancibi, Shamsu Sani.

He expressed condolences to the bereaved family and advised members of the public to avoid entering wells without appropriate rescue equipment, urging them to immediately alert emergency responders during similar incidents.
