The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, has intercepted 64 bags of cannabis sativa concealed inside a cement-laden trailer along the Zaria–Kano road.

The seizure was made by officers attached to the Kiru Area Command following intelligence-led surveillance and sustained monitoring of suspected drug trafficking activities.

According to the Command, the trailer, loaded with Dangote cement, departed Obajana in Kogi State and was en – route to Mubi in Adamawa State, when it was intercepted.

The cannabis consignment was discovered hidden within the legitimate cargo.

The driver of the vehicle has been arrested and is currently in NDLEA custody pending further investigation.

Commander of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, CN D.Y. Lawal, described the operation as a product of meticulous intelligence work and the dedication of officers.

“This seizure is the result of careful surveillance and coordinated efforts by our personnel. The drugs were concealed within legitimate cargo and are believed to have been intended for distribution in Kano ahead of the Ramadan period. We will not allow drug traffickers to endanger the safety and spiritual wellbeing of our communities,” Lawal stated.

He noted that the Command remains committed to disrupting drug supply chains and preventing traffickers from exploiting the Ramadan season to circulate illicit substances.

In line with directives from the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Mohamed Buba Marwa, the Kano Command said it would intensify patrols, reinforce checkpoints, and sustain intelligence-driven operations across the state.

The Command added that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the trafficking network behind the shipment.

“Those found culpable will be prosecuted in accordance with the law”

The agency also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities related to drug trafficking to the nearest NDLEA office or through official communication channels.
