Governor Umar Namadi has launched a new phase of housing projects in Jigawa State as part of efforts to expand access to decent and affordable homes.
According to a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, the event held Thursday in Dutse also marked the launch of an artisan skills training programme for 135 youths drawn from all 27 local government areas of the state.
Governor Namadi recalled that the housing programme commenced nearly two years ago, with the foundation stone laid on January 20, 2024.
He further disclosed that approximately 1,050 of the 1,500 housing units targeted in the first phase have been completed, and confirmed that a third phase is scheduled to begin later this year.
Namadi said the new initiative is aimed at repositioning the Jigawa State Housing Authority as a viable and self-sustaining institution capable of delivering affordable housing to civil servants and the general public.
According to him, the state government has provided an investment fund of ₦2 billion to enable the Housing Authority to implement the programme effectively.
Namadi stressed that the initiative aligns with Goal Nine of his administration’s 12-Point Agenda, which focuses on urban infrastructure development, renewal and expansion of affordable housing.
He commended the Ministry of Lands and the Housing Authority for laying the foundation of 52 two- and three-bedroom housing units in Dutse, describing it as a significant milestone.
The governor urged the Authority to manage the investment fund with transparency and efficiency to ensure accelerated access to affordable homes and sustainable returns.
He also encouraged the exploration of public-private partnerships and innovative building technologies to reduce construction costs and improve affordability.
Highlighting youth empowerment, Namadi said the artisan training programme was designed to equip young people with practical construction skills and promote job creation.
He noted that the 135 beneficiaries were selected from across the state to encourage inclusive participation in the building sector.
Namadi reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustained investment in housing development, youth empowerment and sustainable urban growth.
He subsequently performed the foundation laying for the 52 housing units and officially launched the artisan training programme, expressing optimism that the initiatives would contribute to a more prosperous and inclusive Jigawa State.
