Professor Tukur Adamu has formally assumed office as the fourth substantive Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Gusau (FUGUS), succeeding Professor Mu’azu Gusau Abubakar, who has successfully completed his five-year tenure.
The handover ceremony, held at the University campus, was well attended by members of the Governing Council, Management, staff and students of the University, as well as representatives of host communities and other dignitaries from within and outside the state.
In a statement signed by the Head, Information and Public Relations Unit, Office of the Vice Chancellor of the University, Jamilu Ibrahim Gusau, Professor Adamu expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Education, Dr. Ma’aruf Tunji Alausa, and members of the University’s Governing Council for the confidence reposed in him.
The new Vice Chancellor pledged his commitment to advancing academic excellence, research and innovation, staff development, students’ welfare, and the provision of a secure and conducive environment for teaching and learning.
Professor Adamu said his administration would prioritize research aimed at providing solutions to local and societal challenges.

“For instance, when I served as Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Research, Innovation and Development at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, we redirected our research focus to addressing local problems. Today, there is ongoing research aimed at finding solutions to post-harvest onion spoilage, which is a major challenge facing onion farmers in Sokoto State,” he said.
Professor Adamu further assured that his leadership would foster partnerships with key stakeholders, including the Zamfara State Government, traditional institutions, security agencies, and religious organizations, to ensure the sustainable development of the University.
He commended his predecessor, Professor Mu’azu Gusau Abubakar, for his impactful tenure marked by remarkable achievements that have placed the University on a progressive path and pledged to consolidate and build upon the foundation already laid.
The new Vice Chancellor described his emergence as the will of Almighty Allah, also appealed to individuals who had taken the University to court over the Vice Chancellorship selection process to reconsider their stance and support his administration in the interest of institutional growth and harmony.
In a remark, the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Mu’azu Gusau Abubakar, attributed the successes recorded during his tenure to divine guidance and the collective support of stakeholders.
He expressed gratitude to the University Governing Council for the opportunity to serve and for the consistent support and guidance provided throughout his tenure.
In their goodwill messages, representatives of various stakeholders within and outside the University community praised the outgoing Vice Chancellor for his outstanding performance and prayed for Allah’s guidance for Professor Adamu as he steers the affairs of the University
Professor Tukur Adamu is a renowned Professor of Parasitology.
He was appointed Vice Chancellor by the University Governing Council at its 32nd Regular Meeting held from 9th to 12th December, 2025.
Until his appointment, he served as the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Research, Innovation and Development at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
