Zamfara State Government has approved the commencement of payment of outstanding gratuity arrears to retired civil servants, covering the period from January 2024 to September 2025.

This development follows the directive of the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, Dr. Dauda Lawal, as part of the administration’s ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening public service welfare and restoring confidence in governance.

The approval was disclosed in a statement issued by the State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Muhammad Dantawasa, who explained that, the exercise constitutes Batch II of the gratuity payments, with the release of funds expected to begin in the coming days.

According to the statement, the initiative is designed to ease the long-standing financial burden faced by retirees and to reaffirm the government’s commitment to honouring its obligations to those who served the state diligently.

The payment of gratuity arrears according to the Commissioner was a key component of Governor Lawal’s Rescue Mission Agenda, which prioritizes workers’ welfare, fiscal responsibility and social justice.

The governor reaffirmed that retirees deserve dignity, respect, and the timely settlement of their entitlements.

The state government also clarified that no beneficiary is required to seek or solicit any favour from any individual or office to receive payment. All verified and eligible retirees will be paid accordingly, without discrimination.

While appreciating the patience and understanding of retirees, the government assured that additional batches of payments will follow in line with available resources, reiterating its commitment to fully implementing the objectives of the Rescue Mission Agenda for the benefit of all citizens of the State.
