President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been advised to establish a fully equipped military base in Agwara Local Government Council of Niger state that will include a mobile and armoured detachment that is capable of pursuing and neutralizing bandits whenever they emerge from their hideouts in the game reserve.

 

The Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria, Niger state chapter and Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, Most Reverend Bulus Dauwa Yohanna gave the advice while addressing Newsmen in Suleja Local Government Council on the incessant attacks in Agwara and Borgu Local Government Councils stressing that the time to act is now.

 

Most Reverend Bulus Yohanna would also wants the Federal Government to deploy adequate security personnel, provide necessary resources and work with local stakeholders to restore peace, as well as to fortify police station and checkpoints without further delay.

 

The Clergyman however advocated for the posting of more policemen to the police station on Agwara Local Government to be supported with vehicular mobility to achieve maximum results.

 

In his remarks Son of the late Emir of Borgu, Prince Murtala Haliru Dantoro, appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to as a matter of urgency come to their aid, to avoid a situation whereby their history, culture, tradition and livelihood will be wiped out by bandits, to send their ancestral history to extinction, and said the bandits are killing people without regard to their Islamic or Christian faith.

 

Prince Murtala Haliru Dantoro lamented that over three hundred persons from Borgu and Agwara Local Government Councils have so far been killed by bandits with many others abducted and properties worth million of naira destroyed, used the avenue to remind the President that his title of the Jagaban Borgu came with great honour which represent a sacred bond between him and people of Borgu Emirate, and should therefore do more to save the people of this great Emirate from terrorist attacks.

 

He pleaded with President Tinubu to declare Borgu and Agwara Local Governments as security priority zones as well as approve an emergency funding for security infrastructure rehabilitation across Borgu kingdom to achieve the desired objective.

 

A representative of Muslim Community from the area, Mohammed Ibrahim Sani, who expressed displeasure over the pathetic situation bedeviling then, maintained that the insecurity challenges has continued to cripple education, agriculture and livelihood of members of the community, as terrorists now move freely and unchallenged.
