Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has assured the people of Kwara State of the Federal Government’s solidarity and support following the deadly attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area, which claimed at least seventy-five lives.

Vice President Shettima gave the assurance during a condolence visit to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq at the Government House in Ilorin.

He described the attack as an unacceptable violation of the people’s right to peaceful worship and coexistence.

The Vice President, who conveyed the sympathy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the government and people of Kwara State, said the scale of the violence shocked Nigerians, noting that the affected communities had been known for peaceful and tolerant religious practices.

He announced that a battalion of the Nigerian Army has been deployed to Kaiama and surrounding areas, assuring residents that all necessary security measures are being taken to restore peace.

He also disclosed that President Tinubu has directed the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, to mobilise relief materials for the affected communities in collaboration with the state government.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq commended President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima for the swift response to the incident, including the immediate deployment of soldiers and police tactical teams.

The Governor confirmed that security operatives, including a police tactical team led by a Deputy Inspector-General of Police and troops under Operation Savannah Shield, are already on ground to prevent a recurrence.

Also speaking, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, sympathised with the people of Kwara and prayed for eternal rest for the departed souls.

In their separate remarks, Chairman of Kaiama Local Government, Alhaji Abubakar Danladi and the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Muazu Shehu Omar appreciated the Federal and State Governments for their timely intervention and support.
