Normalcy has been restored in Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following the deployment of soldiers and forest guards to the affected areas.
Reports gathered by Radio Nigeria indicate that bandits launched renewed attacks on the two communities, resulting in casualties and destruction of property. Several families were said to have lost loved ones, while a number of houses were reportedly set ablaze during the violence.
A local source disclosed that the attackers, believed to have come from neighbouring villages in Niger State, allegedly visited the communities and attempted to persuade residents to reject the Nigerian Constitution.
Sources further revealed that the armed groups had earlier moved around villages in neighbouring parts of Niger State spreading similar messages before infiltrating the affected communities in Kaiama Local Government Area.
Reacting to the incident, Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, condemned the attack. In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor described the incident as a cowardly act by terrorist elements frustrated by ongoing counter-terrorism operations and the successes recorded in parts of the state.
