Kebbi State Government has fixed 4th to 7th February, 2026 for the commencement of 5th edition of the Yauri Rigata and Cultural Festival activities in Yawuri Emirate.

The National Chairman of the Festival and Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida made this known at a press conference held in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, in an effort to mark the beginning of the programme.

Tafida said, the events include a Trade Fair Exhibition, Agricultural Show, Cultural Performances, Water Sports and the Rigata Main Event, spread over three days, from Wednesday 4th to Saturday 7th February, 2026.

He added that, Rigata is a Gunganci word meaning ‘Marine War’, in its social context it connotes buoyancy and prestige, and it started about 200 years ago as a display of naval strength of the Gungu people, when warriors boarded various sizes of canoes with different weapons to attack the most dangerous hippopotamus in the River Niger.

According to thim, this year’s festival, like its predecessors, is packaged to feature a number of spectacular and thrilling events aimed at showcasing the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the people of Yauri Emirate.

The National Chairman also expressed gratitude to the state government, and appreciate the commendable role of the Kebbi State Government under the able leadership of Dr. Nasir Idris for ensuring that this festival takes place.
