Kano State Commissioner for Internal Security, Retired AVM Ibrahim Umaru, has reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to decisively tackle the rising cases of heinous crimes and ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.

The Commissioner gave this assurance while on a condolence visit to the family of a man whose wife and six children were gruesomely murdered by suspected assailants at their residence in Chiranci Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area.

Retired AVM Ibrahim Umaru expressed deep shock over the brutal manner in which the victims were killed and assured that the government would not fold its arms and allow such inhuman acts to thrive in the society.

He commended the swift response of the Kano State Police Command and other security agencies, which led to the prompt arrest of the suspected perpetrators.

The Commissioner reiterated Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to adequately equip security agencies and the newly established Neighbourhood Watch to effectively confront security challenges and guarantee the protection of citizens.

Speaking on the factors contributing to such acts of cruelty among youths, AVM Umaru identified drug abuse and unemployment as major drivers.

He disclosed that the state government, in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), would intensify efforts to combat drug addiction and other social vices threatening public safety.

He further stressed the need for parents and community leaders to support government initiatives aimed at restoring moral values and security in society.

As part of efforts to provide immediate support, the Commissioner presented bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti and pasta, as well as a cash donation of one million naira to the bereaved family as temporary relief.
