The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has assured Nigerians that 2026 will be a year of peace and prosperity, as she began the new year with visits to new mothers at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja.
Speaking during the visit, the First Lady described the new year as one of “peace in abundance” and “prosperity in abundance” for the nation.
Accompanied by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima; the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajia Imaan Sulieman-Ibrahim; and the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Hajia Mariya Mahmoud, Senator Tinubu welcomed the First Baby of the Year—a baby girl born at midnight to a 26-year-old first-time mother, Adakole Patience.
She also visited and celebrated Mrs Blessing Oragwu, who gave birth to triplets—two boys and a girl—on December 29, 2025, after 13 years of marriage.
The First Lady presented the families with gifts.
“I welcomed the baby of the year, a girl, and then visited the triplets born last month. The mother waited for 13 years, which is wonderful. I also visited another baby boy,” she said.
Reflecting on the significance of the new births, Senator Tinubu expressed gratitude that many Nigerians made it into the new year.
“In Yoruba land, they say when you have girls, they come with ease. So we believe that this year will be a great year for us as a nation—peace in abundance and prosperity in abundance,” she said.
She urged Nigerians to remain thankful, describing the previous year as challenging but emphasizing the importance of gratitude for life.
The First Lady also encouraged Nigerian women to embrace opportunities with faith, diligence, and generosity in the new year.
“Nigerian women are blessed and hardworking. Whatever they feel God has laid in their hearts, they should do it. Never feel discouraged because you don’t have money. Start small, and you will be amazed,” she said.
She further emphasized the importance of generosity, particularly towards the less privileged.
“This year, if you want money, you have to sow into the lives of the less privileged. Be generous. Giving should be intentional. It is a year of generosity,” she added.
