The Nigeria Labour Congress, Sokoto State chapter, has suspended its planned street protest over worsening insecurity and held special prayers for peace and safety across the state.
The state NLC Chairman, Abdullahi Jungle, stated this while briefing journalists at the NLC Secretariat in the state.
He said the move followed extensive consultations and a resolution of the State Executive Council, in line with the directive from the NLC National Headquarters.
The NLC had earlier indicated readiness to join a nationwide protest called by organized labour to draw attention to the escalating insecurity across the country, particularly in the North-West, where banditry, kidnappings, and attacks on rural communities have continued unabated.
Jungle expressed concern that several local government areas, including Sabon Birni, Isa, Rabah, Tangaza, and Gada, have been experiencing repeated attacks that have hindered the socio-security and economic development of the state.
He added that despite efforts by our security agencies, the challenges requires fervent prayers for divine intervention.
