Stakeholders on Climate Change in Kaduna State have validated the Co-Created Kaduna Climate Change Accountability Mechanism, KADCCAM, as part of efforts towards the effective implementation of the Kaduna State Climate Policy twenty-twenty-four to twenty-twenty-eight.
The Stakeholders made the validation during a workshop powered by Partnership for Agile Governance and Climate Engagement, PACE and UK International Development held in Kano.
Speaking during the workshop, Permanent Secretary, Kaduna State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Mrs Linda Yakubu explained that the Co-Created Kaduna Climate Change Accountability Mechanism, KADCCAM validation is a milestone and a bedrock towards providing lasting solutions to Climate Change issues confronting the state.
Mrs Yakubu who applauded PACE and other relevant stakeholders for their support in making Kaduna State to be the first state in Nigeria to get to the level of validating a Co-Created Climate Change Accountability Mechanism.
She noted that the State Commissioner of Environment and Natural Resources, Alhaji Abubakar Buba would soon inaugurate the interim leadership appointed by members present at the workshop to kick start the secretariat in the state.
On his Part, the Special Assistant to the Kaduna State Governor on Climate Change, Mallam Yusuf Amoke said their is the need for all and sundry to support the mechanism.
He maintained that Kaduna State government under the leadership of Governor, Uba Sani is poised towards uplifting a top position at the Governance Ranking on Climate Change in the country.
On his part, State Team Lead of PACE, Mallam Ashiru Sani stressed the need for all citizens of Kaduna State to take the fight against Climate Change seriously and be committed in ending practices that promote Climate change and in turn causes so much harm to them and the environment.
Mallam Ashiru expressed optimism that the mechanism which is the roadmap would be effectively and judiciously utilized to achieve the desired goal.
The sessions which were Co-chaired by two Consultants, Dr. John Mutu and Dr. Hajara Mohammed had stakeholders drawn from the Media, Civil Society, PWDs, Private Sector and Government, among others.
High point of the workshop is the adoption and validation of the KADCCAM framework, development and adoption of the KADCCAM Action Plan, constitution of KADCCAM leadership and membership, as well as Next step, among others.
