A philanthropic organization, Dahiru Mangal Foundation, has covered medical bills worth over N257 million for 21,000 vulnerable patients in Katsina State in the last ten years.

A member of the Board of Trustees of the foundation, Alhaji Hassan Kabir, disclosed this in Katsina during the screening of patients from the 34 local government areas who will be treated of various eye conditions.

He explained that within the period, the foundation sponsored the treatment of 3,000 patients with urinary tract infection, 17,000 patients with eye problems and 1,000 hernia and hydrocele patients.

Kabir pointed out that the assistance includes free examination, treatment, drugs and counselling while cases that require surgery or referral are also fully funded by the foundation.

“The foundation has engaged some of the best medical teams and procured high-quality drugs and equipment for these interventions, our aim is to ease the financial burden of healthcare for vulnerable individuals.

“Since the foundation’s was established in 2016, it has sponsored thousands of surgical procedures for patients from neighbouring states and from Niger Republic. Besides healthcare it also provide dedicated to support for persons in terms of education and economic empowerment“, Kabir added.

An ophthalmic nurse at the Katsina Eye Centre, Ibrahim Lawal, commended the foundation for the outreach which provides succour to patients from vulnerable families.

He urged other foundations, corporate bodies and wealthy individuals to also assist less privileges persons with support particularly in the areas of health and education.
