Federal Government retirees have called on the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) to stop the monthly deductions from their pension to fund activities of the National Union of Pensioners (NUP), describing the action as unacceptable.

The retirees argued in several comments that the Union does not deserve such deductions, noting that it failed to protect the interests of senior citizens during nationwide protests demanding payment of accumulated benefits.

They stressed that the protests held in Lagos, Kaduna, and other parts of the country led by the Coordinator of the Coalition of Federal Pensioners were not supported by the Union.

One of the pensioners, Alhaji Muhtari Muhammed Katsina, expressed dismay over the non-payment of the one-month arrears reportedly promised by PTAD to halt the protest, alleging that the decision was made in collaboration with some Federal Government loyalists.

Alhaji Muhtari Muhammed Katsina who commended the Coalition for the Lagos protest also opposed deduction of the monthly pension which does not serve interest of retirees.
