The Zamfara State Government has approved 2.75 billion naira for the construction of an ultra-modern trailer park in the Damba area of Gusau, aimed at reducing traffic congestion, enhancing road safety, and protecting newly constructed roads within the state capital.

The State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Alhaji Nasiru Ibrahim Zurmi, announced this while briefing newsmen in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.

He said the project became necessary due to the increasing number of heavy-duty vehicles plying major roads within Gusau and its environs.

Alhaji Nasiru Zurmi explained that, the indiscriminate parking of petrol tankers and trailers along highways has led to traffic hazards, road damage, and fire incidents in other states, a situation the Zamfara Government is determined to prevent.

He noted that, the new trailer park would serve multiple functions, including safeguarding the state’s new road infrastructure, reducing accidents and loss of lives, and generating revenue through service fees from truck drivers.

The commissioner confirmed that, Governor Dauda Lawal has given full approval for the project and directed that, the contractors should be mobilized to the site in early December to commence work immediately.

Alhaji Nasiru Ibrahim Zurmi revealed that, there is an existing facility at the location including a warehouse, hotel, restaurant, administrative block, logistics units, and a police station and will be fully renovated and expanded to meet the needs of the trailer park.

According to him, the first phase of the project will create a parking lot capable of accommodating between 100 and 150 trailers, while the parking area will be constructed with reinforced concrete pavement to ensure durability and long-term use.

He further disclosed that the ₦2.75 billion project is expected to be completed within 16 months.

The commissioner expressed confidence that, the project, when completed, will significantly improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and support the state’s economic development.

Zurmi emphasized that the ongoing effort aligns with Governor Dauda Lawal’s Rescue Mission Agenda.
