Police have fired teargas in an attempt to disperse two rival factions of the Peoples Democratic Party clashing at the party’s National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, in Abuja.

Trouble erupted when the new national chairman of the party, Dr Tanimu Turaki arrived for a scheduled meeting, alongside Governors Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State and Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

Before their arrival, the faction loyal to Samuel Anyanwu had already gathered at the Secretariat, leading to a confrontation between the two groups.

In the heat of the clash, the governors reportedly barricaded the gate, preventing the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, from entering the Wadata Plaza.

The latest face-off underscores the deepening division between the Turaki-led PDP and the Anyanwu faction, both of which lay claim to the party’s structure.
