The Kano State House of Assembly has received a formal correspondence from Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf regarding the presentation of the state’s first-ever ₦1 trillion proposed budget for the 2026 fiscal year.

The presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

The letter, read by Speaker Alhaji Jibril Isma’il Falgore during plenary, explains that the budget submission aligns with Section 121 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.

Governor Yusuf stated that the unprecedented budget size reflects his administration’s determination to consolidate ongoing infrastructure projects, urban renewal initiatives, and socio-economic development across the State.

He attributed the increase to significant improvements in internally generated revenue (IGR) and efforts to block leakages within the system.

The speaker noted that,Gov Yusuf explained that, the 2026 budget will prioritize housing development, agriculture, education, healthcare, and support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), aiming to stimulate economic growth and create sustainable livelihoods for the people of Kano.

Once presented, the proposed budget will be transmitted to the Kano State House of Assembly for legislative review and approval.

If approved, it will mark the first time a northern Nigerian state has submitted a budget of this magnitude.

Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, fiscal responsibility, and ensuring that every sector receives adequate support to deliver quality services to the citizens of Kano State.
