The Federal University of Technology Minna, in Niger state says it will think out of the box to look at the university governance and how the funding can be improved upon to reduce the over dependence on subvention from Federal Government.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta stated this while declaring opened the fourth Annual Lecture of Bursary Department with the theme Exploring Revenue Diversification For Financial Sustainability Of Nigerian Universities:Problems and Prospects held at main campus, Gidan Kwano.
Prof Faruk Adamu Kuta said as parts of efforts to increase its revenue generation they have embarked on remodelling of the university guest house to certain standard as well as the
improvement of university research farm and lots of other initiative to enhance its Internally Generated Revenue IGR to become economically viable.
The Vice Chancellor gave an assurance that they will follow the recommendations outlined by guest speaker religiously to attain greater height, however maintained that they are not thinking of increasing student’s tuition fee which he said does not add to their IGR since it was not a revolving fund.
Guest Speaker and National President Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Dr Haruna Nma Yahaya, said for Nigerian Universities to attain financial sustainability it must be transparent, keep its record open as well as to audit and publish it’s account annually to thrive.
In her welcome address, the University Bursar, Dr Hadiza Goje, applauded the Vice Chancellor, Prof Faruk Adamu Kuta for his unwavering support which she said culminated to the success of this lecture and also appreciated the entire university management team and her staff for the show of solidarity and called for more to succeed.
