Parents and guardians in Kwara state have been urged to always present their children for immunisation against polio and other preventable diseases.

The state Commissioner for Social Development, Hajiya Mariam Imam, made the call during a Polio intervention organised by the state government in collaboration with the National Association of Persons With Disabilities (NAPWD), held in Ilorin.

She advised parents to dispel misconceptions about vaccines and ensure their children receive all necessary immunisations to protect them from life-threatening diseases such as polio.

Hajiya Imam commended members of the association and polio survivors for not relegating themselves by begging for alms, adding that they should not allow their disabilities to have negative effect on their lives.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman National Association of Persons With Disabilities (NAPWD), Kwara State Chapter, Comrade Muftau Olesin, who was represented by the Vice Chairman, Mrs. Maryamu John, appealed to the State Government for the establishment of a commission for persons with disabilities in order to promote and implement policies in their favour.
