A delegation of Greek medical professionals has commended Jigawa State for its impressive organization, hospitality, and infrastructure, saying the environment “felt like Europe.”

The humanitarian team, from the Greece-based organization HEART DOCTORS, shared their experience during a courtesy visit to Governor Malam Umar Namadi after completing a week-long medical outreach.

Leader of the delegation, Mrs. Elena Sotiriou, said they were amazed by the level of development in the state compared to other parts of Nigeria where they had worked.

“When we arrived, I could hardly believe this was Nigeria. The roads are excellent, and everything is well organized. We felt like we were in Europe,” she stated.

Mrs. Sotiriou noted that the team also visited health facilities and found them to be in good condition and superior to what they had seen elsewhere.

She explained that HEART DOCTORS is a family-based group that has carried out 46 missions in Nigeria over the last 35 years, focusing mainly on vulnerable communities in the North.

The delegation insisted on visiting remote rural areas where medical needs are greater, saying humanitarian service should reach those who struggle most.

Mrs. Sotiriou added that the appreciation and relief expressed by patients encouraged the team’s continued commitment to providing free healthcare.

She praised the state government and local health workers for their support, organization, and warm hospitality throughout the outreach.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary at Government House Dutse, Governor Namadi described the visit as a remarkable act of sacrifice and kindness to the people of Jigawa.

He assured the medical team of strong government support for future missions and highlighted ongoing initiatives to tackle malnutrition across the state.

The governor said Jigawa spends nearly ₦250 million on nutrition interventions and is developing locally sourced supplements like the Maseki Programme and Tom Brown to improve child health.

He added that 600 women have so far been trained and empowered to produce and distribute these supplements at community healthcare centres.
