Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has directed all Emirs in the state to uphold the annual Durbar festival as part of efforts to preserve and promote Kano’s rich cultural heritage.

The directive was issued during the opening ceremony of KANFEST 2025 held in Kano.

The event, also known as Kalankuwa, is designed to celebrate the state’s cultural diversity, empower creatives, engage youth and women, and foster global partnerships to position Kano on the international cultural map.

Governor Yusuf reiterated the full support of his administration for the Emirates to ensure the centuries-old tradition of horsemanship is preserved, strengthened and showcased to the world.

He said the state government is committed to continued investment in arts, culture and tourism as tools for social cohesion, youth engagement and economic diversification.

The Emir of Kano and Chairman of the State Council of Emirates, Dr. Muhammadu Sanusi II, commended the state government for its efforts in reviving and protecting longstanding cultural values and traditions of the Kano people.

The three-day festival features cultural displays, local cuisine exhibitions, performances, traditional games, crafts, fabrics, pottery, drama and paper presentations.

Participants include traditional title holders, members of the diplomatic corps, artisans, cultural groups, investors, youth and artists from across the culture and tourism sectors.
