Over two hundred and eighty households in lafia local government area have received trash bins aimed at improving debris management and promoting a cleaner environment in the state capital.

The distribution exercise took place at the lafia, the nasarawa state capital, spearheaded by the state commissioner for Environment and Natural Resource, Dr. Margaret Elayo.

The outreach program encompassed several local government areas including karu, keffi, akwanga, wamba, obi, and keana, with lafia local government area receiving the largest share of beneficiaries.

During the event, the Commissioner Dr. Margaret Elayo expressed concern over the increasing litter on streets and culverts, which poses environmental and health risks to the community.

“The distribution of these trash bins is essential for keeping our environment clean and protecting the health of our people,” she stated.

Dr. Elayo called for the global transitional era where waste can be converted into wealth, thus encouraging all the beneficiaries to utilize the trash bins for proper disposal of plastic bottles and sachets, highlighting ongoing collaborations with recycling factories seeking these materials for processing.

“cleanliness is next to Godliness,” Dr. Elayo insisted that maintaining a clean environment is not optional, but an obligation for every household to safeguard public health”….she added

The Commissioner acknowledged the various intervention programs launched by the nasarawa state government under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Sule, aimed at uplifting the living standards of women.

She urged women to rally behind the governor to maximize the benefits of democratic governance.

The trash bins distribution initiative, led by Dr. Margaret Elayo, received commendation from beneficiaries who applauded her foresight and commitment as well assured to use the bins responsibly to contribute to a cleaner environment in the state.
