The Federal Fire Service in Sokoto has held a meeting with stakeholders to identify the root causes of recurring fire incidents affecting markets across the state.

In his opening remarks, the Zonal Controller of the Federal Fire Service, Muhammad Ibn Umar, attributed the frequent fire outbreaks to poor enforcement of safety regulations and building codes.

He emphasized the need for regulatory agencies to ensure strict compliance with fire safety standards to prevent future occurrences.

Mr. Ibn Umar called on market authorities, traders, and other stakeholders to collaborate with the Fire Service in promoting fire prevention awareness and adopting proactive safety measures.

Speaking on behalf of the Sokoto State government, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Alh. Isa Muhammad Tambagarka, said the state government has already awarded a contract for the rebuilding of the market that was damaged by fire.

The Commissioner warned that anyone or group found responsible for a fire outbreak would face the full force of the law.
