Jigawa State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has recorded another major success in its continuous fight against corruption and injustice in the state.
The Commission secured a conviction against Hon. Shu’aibu Kashim Dila before the Chief Magistrate Court II in Dutse, presided over by Chief Magistrate Abdullahi Ibrahim Aliyu.
Hon. Dila was arraigned on a three-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, and cheating.
According to the Commission, the case originated from a written complaint filed by one Aisha Yusuf of Hadejia Local Government Area, through her legal representatives, on February 17, 2025.
The complainant alleged that the defendant, in conspiracy with his wife, deceitfully obtained ₦5 million from her under the pretext that it would be repaid within one month, but later went into hiding to evade repayment.
Following a thorough investigation, the Commission established evidence of fraud, including a confessional statement by the defendant, which led to his arraignment before the Magistrate Court.
During trial, Hon. Dila pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The prosecution, led by Barrister Zubairu Haladu, called three witnesses and tendered two exhibits, while the defense presented two witnesses without any documentary evidence.
After hearing both sides, the Chief Magistrate on October 8, 2025, delivered judgment in favor of the Commission and found Hon. Dila guilty on all three counts.
The court sentenced him to three months imprisonment or a fine of ₦50,000 for criminal breach of trust and another three months or ₦50,000 for cheating.
He was also fined ₦30,000 or two months imprisonment for criminal conspiracy.
Similarly, the court ordered him to pay ₦5 million as restitution to the complainant or serve five years imprisonment in default.
The defendant is also to pay ₦250,000 to cover prosecution expenses, with a four-month imprisonment in default.
The court ruled that all sentences are to run consecutively.
The Commission described the ruling as a victory for justice, accountability, and transparency in Jigawa State.
Director of Education and Public Relations of the Commission, Yusuf Suleiman, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to ensuring that corruption cases are thoroughly investigated and prosecuted without fear or favour.
