Federal Government has launched a Contactless Card System at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja in a bid to promote modern and efficient cashless transactions at the nation’s airports.

At the launch in Abuja, the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, said the initiative aims to completely phase out cash collections at airports across the country by the first quarter of next year.

Mrs. Olubumi Kuku, says the full deployment of the first phase of the Go Cashless operation at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, follows the successful launch of the initiative in Lagos last week.

Represented by the Managing Director, Commercial and Business Development, FAAN, Mrs. Adebola Joy Agunbiade, the FAAN boss expressed optimism that the initiative would promote modern and efficient cashless services in revenue collection across airports nationwide.

Mrs. Kuku explained that the Authority targets a 50 percent increase in revenue within the pilot phase, with expectations to achieve 100 percent growth in the second phase of the project.

She also emphasized the need for stakeholders to intensify awareness on the effectiveness and benefits of the programme.

The FAAN Regional Manager, Mr. Ridnap Nantim, applauded the Federal Government for the initiative, expressing confidence that it would help ease vehicular and passenger traffic at airports.

Other stakeholders at the event pledged to collaborate closely with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria to ensure the smooth and nationwide implementation of the programme.
