Federal Government has again been urged to include retirees of the defunct People’s Bank in pension payments to alleviate their prolonged suffering over the years.

Retirees of the bank made the appeal following reports of the commencement of the ₦32,000 pension increment payment to retired workers of ministries and parastatals by the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate.

One of the pensioners, Hajiya Halima Jayawa, recalled several efforts made in the past to demand settlement of their entitlements, which have yet to succeed despite repeated assurances from the Directorate in Abuja.

She expressed dismay that pension arrears had been paid to retirees of defunct organisations such as NITEL, MTEL, and NIPOST during the Goodluck Jonathan administration, while calling on the National Assembly to intervene in their case.
