Zamfara State Police Command says it has recorded significant achievements in the ongoing fight against banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities in the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Gusau, the state capital.
According to him, the recent operations by the command led to the recovery of arms, arrest of notorious bandits, and rescue of kidnapped victims.
Ibrahim Maikaba explained that, on 15th of September 2025, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit intercepted a Toyota Corolla along the Gummi-Sokoto Road and searching of the vehicle led to the recovery of four AK-47 rifles, 200 rounds of PKT ammunition, 28 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and four empty magazines.
He said the items were concealed in a sack of oranges belonging to one Nasuru Dawan Jiya, who confessed to transporting the weapons to bandits in Gurusu Village while Investigation.
According to the CP, investigation is ongoing to arrest other accomplices and dismantle the supply chain.
In another development, on 17th September 2025, the police apprehended a 57-year-old suspect, Muhammadu Dan Kani, popularly known as Akki, in Funtua, Katsina State.
The suspect was linked to several kidnapping cases in Zamfara while the Items recovered from him included 11 fabricated firearms, 25 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, and six live cartridges.
During interrogation, he confessed to being part of kidnapping gangs terrorizing Tsafe, Yandoto, and Yanwarin Daji, and identified himself as a member of the Kachalla Dan Goggo gang, notorious for high-profile kidnappings in Gusau metropolis.
Similarly, on 21st September 2025, police operatives, led by DPO Talata Mafara, CSP Garba Musa Mahuta, in collaboration with Community Protection Guards and vigilantes, rescued five kidnapped victims from Wanu Village in Anka Local Government Area.
Ibrahim Maikaba explained that, the victims, who were being relocated from a bandits’ camp in Barikin Daji forest, were freed after a gun battle.

The Commissioner also revealed that on 20th September 2025, a patrol team led by DSP Umar Abubakar arrested 30-year-old Haruna Musa of Rawayya Village, Bungudu Local Government, along the Gusau-Kaura Namoda Road.
Adding that, Arms and ammunition were recovered from him, and investigations are ongoing to trace his criminal network.
Similarly, on 19th September 2025, operatives on patrol had intercepted two suspects along the Gusau-Sokoto Highway near Gada Biyu.
According to him, the suspects were found with 18 fabricated firearms concealed on motorcycles while the case is currently under investigation at the State Intelligence and Criminal Investigation Department, Gusau.
In another operation, on 14th September 2025, police operatives arrested one Alhaji Shehu Aliyu in Gurusu Village with nine sacks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. The suspect, a repeat offender with over six years of drug trafficking history, remains in custody for further investigation.
Commissioner Maikaba commended officers of the command for their bravery and professionalism and assured residents of the state that, the police remain resolute in eliminating criminal activities and restoring peace.
He further appealed to members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, noting that community support remains crucial in the fight against crime.
