President Bola Tinubu says Nigeria’s economy has “turned the corner” following the success of reforms introduced by his administration over the past two years.
The President gave the assurance while speaking in Ibadan, Oyo State, at the coronation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Senator) Abdul-Rashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja.
President Tinubu thanked Nigerians for their patience and sacrifices, stressing that citizens would soon begin to enjoy the fruits of the economic reforms.
He described the moment as a turning point, declaring there was now “light at the end of the tunnel.”
The President also praised the Olubadan for his resilience in Nigeria’s democracy, recalling how he survived an illegal impeachment during his tenure as governor of Oyo State.
He prayed for the monarch’s long life, prosperity, and continued relevance on the throne of his forefathers.
President Tinubu equally appreciated former and serving governors, traditional rulers, and other dignitaries for gracing the coronation ceremony.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State presented the new Olubadan with the staff of office and certificate of recognition.
The governor noted that Oba Ladoja’s coronation had finally resolved disputes over succession within Ibadan’s traditional institution.
He added that the historic event symbolised unity, stressing that all challenges associated with the kingship were now behind Ibadanland.
In his acceptance speech, Oba Ladoja attributed his ascension to destiny, recalling his journey from Mogaji of the Arusa family in 1992 to the throne of Olubadan.
He pledged to uphold the trust of the kingmakers and thanked President Tinubu, Governor Makinde, and sons and daughters of Ibadan for their support.
The monarch emphasised that his coronation was not a product of influence, money, or power, but the will of God.
Among the dignitaries present were the governors of Ondo, Ekiti, and Osun States, several former governors, traditional rulers, and federal officials including the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and FIRS Chairman, Zacch Adedeji.
The Sultan of Sokoto, the Alaafin of Oyo, and the Soun of Ogbomoso also joined in witnessing the historic coronation.
