Federal Government pensioners across the country have been advised to fully support the next round of protests against the delayed payment of their accumulated benefits by the Ministry of Finance.

A retiree of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Maliki Aruna, gave the advice while reacting to the low turnout recorded in the last protests held in some states.

Aruna stressed the need for all pensioners’ unions to sponsor at least two representatives for the next demonstration to express their frustration over what he described as continued neglect and maltreatment by federal authorities.

He noted that the success of the struggle would depend on full mobilisation nationwide, rather than leaving the protests to retirees from only FRCN and NIPOST, even though the benefits affect all senior citizens.

Aruna also commended some union leaders for their commitment to the cause, which he said has reassured pensioners of stronger cooperation towards achieving their objectives.
