Federal and State Governments have been advised to divert funds allocated for the celebration of June 12 Democracy Day to the payment of workers’ salaries and pensioners’ entitlements.

A former member of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Idris Muhammad Keta, gave the advice in reaction to the public holiday approved for the celebration on Thursday.

Alhaji Idris Keta noted sufferings of the nation’s workers and pensioners caused by unfavourable economic conditions which should be addressed to justify their patriotic sacrifices. former or

He expressed concern over reports of alleged financial inducement to facilitate defection of elected leaders to the ruling party described as unfortunate.

The former legislator stressed the need for leaders at all levels to work towards effective socio-economic development expected in a democracy.
