Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Jigawa State Council, has inaugurated two strategic committees, Ethics and Disciplinary, and Education and Training as part of its commitment to professional excellence and capacity building in the media sector.
During the inauguration held at the NUJ Secretariat in Dutse on Tuesday, 20th, the State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Ismail Ibrahim Dutse, described the occasion as a pivotal moment in advancing the union’s values of integrity, accountability, and growth.
He noted that the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee will play a central role in upholding journalistic standards by handling grievances, promoting responsible conduct, and strengthening public trust through truth and fairness in reportage.
Comrade Ismail called on the members of the committee to execute their duties with diligence and impartiality, stressing that their actions will reflect not only on the union but also on the broader media community in Jigawa State.

On the Education and Training Committee, the NUJ Chairman said its function is to ensure journalists remain competitive by organizing workshops, identifying training needs, and promoting continuous learning in the rapidly evolving media industry.
He urged the committee to collaborate with institutions, experts, and stakeholders in crafting impactful development programs to empower members with modern tools and skills.
The Chairman praised the commitment of all involved in setting up the two committees, affirming that the initiative is aimed at strengthening the union’s internal structures and improving the quality of journalism across the state.
He officially declared both committees inaugurated, expressing confidence in their ability to deliver on their mandates and elevate journalism practice in Jigawa to higher standards.
