Zamfara State Government has urged public administration agencies and school managements to prioritize the maintenance of all renovated school structures in order to preserve their value and ensure sustained progress in the education sector.

Governor Dauda Lawal made the call while inaugurating the newly renovated and upgraded Government Girls Arabic Secondary School in Gusau.

He explained that the project, along with ongoing other renovation schools across the state, is part of his administration’s efforts to revive the boarding school system, while simultaneously strengthening security to protect schools and their surrounding communities.

According to Governor Lawal, improving school infrastructure is essential to achieving a holistic education system that accommodates students from various academic backgrounds and helps them realize their potential.

He emphasized that the renovation is a testament to the progress made under the state of emergency declared in the education sector.

“This school is one of the oldest institutions in this region, known for training future teachers,” the governor said. “We have now remodeled it into a comprehensive secondary school offering science, arts, ICT, and commercial subjects.”

Governor Lawal noted that the objective of establishing the school had been compromised due to the dilapidated condition of the environment and a past fire incident that affected student hostels.

He said this informed the government’s decision to fully renovate and transform the school to fulfill its core mandate.

“After rebuilding burnt-down hostels, we decided to extend the contract to include the full renovation of all school structures,” he added.

The governor revealed that the renovation was completed within a 13 months contract period and included comprehensive mechanical and electrical works across the school.

“Both phase one and phase two of the contract are now 100% completion, covering a total of 94 different structures, all executed satisfactorily in line with the contract terms and specifications.”

Renovated structures include:Administrative blocks, Examination hall, Student kitchen classrooms, Dining area, Laboratories ICT center among others

Governor Lawal urged all the stakeholders to safeguard the facilities and ensure they are properly maintained to support the government’s vision for quality education in Zamfara.

Ealier, Zamfara State for Education, Science and Technology, Malam Wadato Madawaki reaffirming government commitment to empowering women through education.

Echoing the adage that “to educate a male child is to educate an individual, but to educate a female child is to educate a nation,”

Madawaki revealed that, the state government has not only restored but transformed the female institution into a model of academic excellence and safe learning environment.

He added that, solar energy has been installed throughout the school, providing 24-hour electricity and creating a safe environment where students can study and move around freely, day or night.

In addition to the state’s interventions, the Adolescent Girl Child Initiative for Learning and Environment (AGILE) is also providing further support to improve learning outcomes and provide gender-sensitive facilities.

This historic effort marks a new era for the Government Girls Arabic Secondary School and represents a broader push by the Zamfara State Government to invest in the future of its daughters, knowing that their education is the cornerstone of societal progress.
