Social media has been described as a major catalyst in shaping public perception and advancing the government’s development agenda.

Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim  Waiya,stated this during a two-day workshop for social media influencers held in Kano.

 

 

The workshop, aimed at promoting global best practices in digital communication, provided participants with insights into the responsible and strategic use of social media.

According to Comrade Waiya, the training is part of the state government’s broader efforts to empower social media advocates to counter misinformation, build positive narratives, and amplify the government’s achievements.

He stressed that, the goal is to ensure that the government’s remarkable progress across sectors such as health, education, infrastructure, and youth empowerment is communicated truthfully and widely to citizens.

He further explained that the sessions are designed to enhance participants’ ability to create impactful and credible content that resonates with the public.

In their remarks, the Chairperson of the sessions, Professor Hajara Umar Sanda, and Dr. Sule Ya’u Sule, urged participants to always fact-check and verify information before sharing it on social media platforms.

The workshop featured paper presentations by Dr. Hassan Ya’u, Dr. Haruna Isma’il, and Dr. Gambo Nababa, offering expert perspectives on digital engagement and media ethics.

Bringing together key online influencers and media advocates, the event reflects the Kano State Government’s commitment to delivering people-centred governance and leveraging digital tools for effective public communication.
