Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has commended the peace initiative between farmers and pastoralists in Guri Local Government Area of the state.

He made the commendation at a peace durbar organized by a Fulani community leader in the area, Lamido Gide, which was well attended by members of both communities during the state government’s citizen engagement programme tagged ‘Gwamnati da Jama’a’ in Guri Local Government Area.

According to him, peace can best be achieved and maintained through community efforts while pledging the state government’s readiness to courage such peace initiatives.

Malam Umar Namadi commended Lamido Gide and other community leaders in Guri and environs for their commitment to reconciliation and peace building.

Meanwhile, Lamido Gide told newsmen in an interview that he decided to initiate the community reconciliation in order to restore peace and communal living between Hausas and fulanis in the area.

 

He noted that in the last two years, there has been no case of clashes between farmers and herders in Guri and its environs, except for pockets of disagreements which have been settled through amicable reconciliation.

Lamido Gide said he invited Fulani and Hausa community leaders from all the awards and villages in the Local Government Area to participate in the peace durbar which was marked with procession by horse and camel riders.

Another community leader, the District head of Guri, Malam Isma’ila Guri expressed his gladness with the peace and harmony enjoyed in the area following the peace deal.

He noted that since the peace deal was achieved there has been no case of encroachment of cattle routes or vandalization of people’s farms by cattle herders while commercial activities have resumed fully.

Malam Isma’ila Guri urged people of Guri and environs to continue to be peaceful and law abiding and to avoid taking the law into their hands in case of disagreements with their neighbours.
