President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to Mr. Mark Joseph Carney on his election as Canada’s 24th Prime Minister following the victory of the Liberal Party in the recent parliamentary elections.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu hailed Carney’s emergence as a significant milestone, especially at a time when Canada needs experienced leadership to navigate pressing challenges.

Carney, a renowned economist, previously served as Governor of the Bank of Canada from 2008 to 2013 and as Governor of the Bank of England from 2013 to 2020.

President Tinubu expressed optimism that the new Canadian leader’s wealth of experience in finance and governance would be instrumental in shaping the country’s future.

He also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Canada, with particular focus on education, climate change, and migration.

The Nigerian leader added that he looks forward to building a dynamic and forward-thinking partnership with Carney’s administration, while also appreciating the cordial ties maintained under former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
