The Kano State House of Assembly has refuted a report by Freedom Radio and other social media platforms labeling it as misleading and untrue.
The report claimed that Speaker Ismail Jibrin Falgon and his deputy, Muhammad Bello Butu-Butu, did not sponsor any bills during the 2024 legislative year, along with five other lawmakers.
In a statement signed by the spokesperson to the speaker Kamaludeen Sani Shawai made available to Radio Nigeria in Kano.
The statement explained that it is crucial to highlight that the online platforms involved in the viral publication lack credibility and transparency.
He noted that, the professional integrity of the media outlets that carried and circulated the unverified report is also questionable.
Kamaludeen said, to set the record straight, the Kano State House of Assembly, under the leadership Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore has achieved significant milestones, including presiding over more than 300 plenary sessions and coordinating plenary debates, more than 200 motions and bills, among other accomplishments under his watch.
He noted that, the claim of “zero motions” against the Speaker and other distinguished Members represent a clear misrepresentation and interpretation of legislative procedures.
“The Speaker has four key responsibilities, which should form the basis of any fair assessment of his performance”
Presiding over sittings to ensure the House adheres to its own rules, Approving votes and proceedings to maintain accurate records of House resolutions as well as Coordinating and facilitating debates aside Administering oaths to Members.
“It is worth noting that, over the past two years, the peaker has successfully presided over 300 sittings, coordinated debates on all motions and bills, and approved over 300 votes and proceedings”
“In light of this, while disputing the information published in the online report, we urge the good people of Kano State to disregard such publications. Furthermore, we call on media outlets to uphold factual reporting and avoid misrepresenting facts to serve certain interests”
