Governor Malam Umar Namadi has approved the appointment of Dr. Mohammed Hassan as the pioneer Director General of the Jigawa State ICT and Digital Economy Agency.
This is contained in a statement signed and made available to newsmen in Dutse by the Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State, Malam Bala Ibrahim.
Prior to his recent appointment, Dr. Hassan served as the Managing Director of Jigawa State Galaxy Information Technology and Telecommunications (Galaxy ITT).
Malam Bala Ibrahim explained that, the new DG is a distinguished alumnus of Bayero University, Kano, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 2008. Dr. Hassan further advanced his education by earning a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Computer Science from the African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja, in 2011, followed by a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Aizu, Japan, in 2018.
He said, his academic journey began at Bayero University, where he joined as a lecturer in 2012 and progressed to Head of Department before taking on his leadership role at Galaxy ITT in October 2023.
Similarly, the Governor has appointed Baffajo Beita as the new Managing Director of Jigawa State Galaxy Information Technology and Telecommunications (Galaxy ITT).
“Previously, Beita held the position of Chief Information Officer at Galaxy Backbone in Abuja. He brings extensive expertise in information technology, with specialization in network administration, cybersecurity, and software development. Beita holds a Bachelor of Science in Computing from Anglia Ruskin University and has a rich background, having started his career at the Jigawa State Informatics Institute, Kazaure, and playing pivotal roles in IT projects across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) involving various sectors including oil and gas, manufacturing, and finance” the statement said.
In addition, the Governor has approved the appointments of Muhammad Nura Zubairu as Executive Director of Technical Services, and Umar Ibrahim Gumel as Executive Director of Business Development Services at Jigawa State Galaxy ITT.
Prior to his new role, Muhammad Nura served as a Network Support Engineer at Galaxy ITT and is an alumnus of Kano State Polytechnic, where he obtained a Higher National Diploma in Cooperative Economics and Management in 2010. His education merges cooperative principles with strategic ICT applications for operational efficiency and innovation.
Umar Ibrahim Gumel, the new Executive Director of Business Development Services, was the Managing Director and CEO of IP6 GLOBAL LIMITED. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and Business Information Systems from Middlesex University, Mauritius, which he received in 2014, and furthered his studies with a Master’s degree in Computer Networks from the same institution in 2015.
” These strategic appointments are part of Governor Namadi’s commitment to strengthen the digital economy in Jigawa State, ensuring that the agency is led by capable professionals who will drive innovation and improve ICT services within and outside the state” said the SSG.
Malam Bala Ibrahim added that, the appointment of the appointees is based on merit, competence and personal integrity.
“It is, therefore, hoped that, the appointees would justify the confidence reposed on them and put in their best towards the development of the State”.
He urged all the appointees to work diligently for sound execution of the present administration’s policies and programmes.
The statement added that all the appointments take immediate effect.
